Go Tell it on the Mountain
You probably know the song “Go Tell it on the Mountain”. I learned it when I was a little kid. People that know me know that I really am not a big fan of Christmas music. I think it gets played way to much before Christmas actually rolls around and most of the songs have become way to secularized for my taste. However, this song came to my mind when I thought about evangelizing.
I try to speak with people about Christ and his amazing sacrifice for sinners as much as I can. One of my favorite places to do this is on the golf course. I play a lot of golf. (SIDE NOTE: It is really a shame that here in MN it is getting cold and my clubs will be put away for the winter soon.) When I go and play I typically will go alone. So, I get paired up a lot with other groups. This is a great time to get to know people and share my story with them. I have made some friends at my local golf course and even get texts from them when they are heading out to play.
Why am I sharing this with you? Because the Bible tells us to go and make disciples. Matthew 28: 19-20 says:
“‘Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’”
Now I haven’t made any “disciples” on the golf course. I haven’t baptized anyone I talk to in any of the ponds that I hit my ball into. But, I do encourage them to repent and believe in Jesus to save them from their sin.
All of us have opportunities to share the good news with the people around us. I pray that you will recognize when those opportunities come.
And when those times arise I pray you will go tell it on the golf course, coffee shop, or the grocery store that Jesus Christ is Lord.
