Which Came First…Regeneration or Faith?
Many Evangelical Christians, Roman Catholics , and many others in “Christendom” believe that faith is what “triggers” the re-birth of an individual. Of course, the reason for this is to try to uphold the philosophical idea of free-will but we wont get into that now. In 1 John 5:1 we see clearly that being born again is what brings faith. 1 John 5:1 says:
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. -ESV
A simple understanding of grammar makes it clear that being born again is what brings faith. Also, to have love for that Father we must be born of him. If you don’t trust me then maybe you will trust someone who taught Greek at the college level. His name is Dr. James White and he has a wonderful video on this subject. Here is the video:
I hope that video was edifying. I know it edified me in my walk with God because it is all about God and not the least about me…and I’m OK with that.
