The R-Word

I believe that every person is made in the image of God. I believe that every human being has worth no matter who they are. Unfortunately, there are many in this culture that want to define humanity solely on the basis of brain function. Well, I don’t buy into that. I work with people with many types of developmental disabilities and while they are challenging at times they are also amazingly human. They are more caring and compassionate than most people I come across. Most clients have to work hard to verbally share how they are feeling but they communicate their love better than most.

I think it is time for us, as Christians, to stand against using “retard” to describe people. The young people of this culture have adopted the R-Word as a pejorative term and it is time to stop it. Check out this video:
