When a Liberal is Honest About Abortion

abortion sign

Recently, I was directed to an article entitled, “So What if Abortion Ends Life?” by Mary Elizabeth Williams. Williams is a writer for Salon.com, and her words are utterly disgusting. In her article this is what she has to say:

Here’s the complicated reality in which we live: All life is not equal. That’s a difficult thing for liberals like me to talk about, lest we wind up looking like death-panel-loving, kill-your-grandma-and-your-precious-baby storm troopers.

The true reality of Liberalism and post-modernism is this: “All life is not equal”. Not only is there irony in the fact that we just celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but Liberals are always saying something like, “We fight for every person.” The truth is this, Liberals lie when they say all people are equal. If you thought that quote was disturbing, just wait. The next sentences say this:

Yet a fetus can be a human life without having the same rights as the woman in whose body it resides. She’s the boss. Her life and what is right for her circumstances and her health should automatically trump the rights of the non-autonomous entity inside of her. Always.

Here, we see the natural progression of the Humanist/Liberal mindset. Since the baby is dependent on the mother to survive, that unborn child’s rights are not equal to the mother’s. This raises a plethora of questions that the pro-choice advocate must answer. Here they are:

#1 Since the mother is autonomous and the baby isn’t, what about the newborn? The newborn is dependent on the mother for years before he/she could ever be autonomous. Does that mean the newborn doesn’t have equal rights with the mother? Is the newborn’s right to life non-existent, because the baby would die if left alone?

#2 What about the developmentally disabled man who could not live without a person to help him? Does he not have the right to life, because he is not autonomous?

#3 What about the elderly woman who cannot live without an oxygen tank? Does she not have the right to life because she can’t breathe without that tank?

Most pro-choice advocates would answer those questions with a resounding NO, but the problem is that they have absolutely no grounds for their answer. If you truly believe that autonomy is the threshold for equal rights, you must be willing to kill millions of other people living outside of the womb. If not, your arguments are emotional and illogical. Now, you might be thinking, “This article couldn’t get any more nutty,” but you would be wrong. Later, Williams says:

My belief that life begins at conception is mine to cling to.

And in the same paragraph Williams ends her article with this:

In an Op-Ed on “Why I’m Pro-Choice” in the Michigan Daily this week, Emma Maniere stated, quite perfectly, that “Some argue that abortion takes lives, but I know that abortion saves lives, too.” She understands that it saves lives not just in the most medically literal way, but in the roads that women who have choice then get to go down, in the possibilities for them and for their families. And I would put the life of a mother over the life of a fetus every single time — even if I still need to acknowledge my conviction that the fetus is indeed a life. A life worth sacrificing.

This last paragraph is the culmination of the Liberal mindset. In Williams mind the life of the mother is more important than the life of the unborn, at all times, and it doesn’t matter if human life starts at conception. Human life can exist without the right to that life. According to Williams, if the mother doesn’t want the child, she can have an abortion because her rights trump the unborn’s.

Many may say, “Well, maybe she was talking about a life threatening situation.” The problem is that Williams never brings this point up. Even if this is the case, abortions are hardly ever needed to save a mother’s life. I see Williams saying that the woman’s choice trumps the babies rights to life, because she is autonomous. Then Williams ends with these words, “A life worth sacrificing”.

Apparently, these little lives are worth sacrificing, because the pregnancy is unwanted. I guess the baby is worth sacrificing because carrying him/her to term would cause too much trouble. If this is true, then I suppose it’s alright for a person to sacrifice their parents when they need to have 24/7 care. If you hold the pro-choice view, you have no choice but to advocate for the sacrificing of the developmentally disabled person. The Liberal argument for abortion depends on the lack of autonomy. If this is true then the Liberal must deal with other people who are not autonomous. If they are consistent then they are utterly disgusting. If they are not consistent then their argument can be thrown out.

Allow me to end with this.

I know a God that came in flesh. His name was Jesus of Nazareth, and he gave himself as a sacrifice for sins. It doesn’t matter if you have only lied once or have aborted your unborn baby, Christ can cover all sin. Christ’s self-sacrifice is sufficient to forgive you. I pray that God opens your heart to understand the greatest sacrifice humanity has ever seen.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Hello,

Well, ‘sigh’….what is sad is that both sides have a lot of hypocrisy…and the horrible sinners that you think the ‘liberals’ are, many of them think your side is too. I will not go into my background, however I will say that my husband was a newscast reporter for 40 yrs and so now that he is at home he likes to watch news all day long (not that I like this! urgh!), however he watches a real mix of news and media, so I have gotten a wide picture of both sides. They believe your side is hypocritical because most of you consider yourself Christians yet without a 2nd thought went about voting and fighting for things that were directly against Christ’s primary teachings…which was how the poor and disadvantaged are to be treated…and this includes many of the single women who you wanted to go thru with their pregnancies, as a great number were young, or homeless and etc. and would need help…as well as the babies that are born, as they would need approprate care too.

I have also heard very few (in comparison to the number of Democrats) say they believe in abortion…but they cannot bring themselves to advocate essentially restraining a woman…many of them quite young… and making her go through something against her will…and then if she doesn’t then she’d have to go to prison.

I’ve also know that some think that if your side actually believed that these women need intervention so they have their babies, then why aren’t you…as there are millions of conservative Christians…get out there and actually do something about it yourselves. Of course there are some doing this so I am talking about the ‘some’….I am talking about and they are talking about that if you see that this is wayyyy against God then why aren’t you out there caring about these women in the name of Jesus, helping them go thru this…getting your hands dirty….and then not only save their babies, but help to save these women’s souls! This is the perfect mission field right here in this country! !

I do know that if the body of Christ did come together in unity as Jesus spoke about in John 17,…which obviously can happen if it’s wanted to truly happen….and chose to obey the new commandment and treat these young/ women the way you would want to be treated (which I heard them talk about many times on the stations you would consider true sinners and which is why they also felt like any nation should care for their own who can’t do it for themselves as in Matthew 25:31-46)….then many babies and women would be saved in more ways than one! They also could not believe that you would vote for a person who had no core of integrity at all which is why he was always changing his mind…and then slandering Pres. Obama when a lot of what your side said about him was hearsay…or 2nd hand…or guilty be association.

    Anyway,….blessings to you!!

    • Jenny,

Thanks for the comment. First, allow me to clarify that “Liberal” was not necessarily meant to depict the Democratic Party. Personally, I do not like to get into politics. What I was referring to is the left-leaning mindset of our nation. Yes, left-leaning can refer to political affiliation, but it also is much greater. It describes the view of Humanism and Naturalism. I understand that not all Democrats support abortion, nearly all Naturalists do.

Second, you are right that the church should not only be advocating babies being born, but also equipping mothers to provide for their child. Right now, the church I attend is supporting a pregnancy center that not only encourages mothers to give birth to their children, but provides classes for mothers that are going to keep their children. They even have classes to help mothers and fathers raise their children. So, when you ask what I am doing, that is my answer. I am not physically getting out their and getting my hands dirty, as you say, but I am aiding those who are called to do this.

Third, the greatest commandment is to love God and the second is to love others as I love myself. This means that I need to stand for God, even if that hurts someone’s feelings. I am not going to back down from writing on this subject just because it is a hot-button issue. I think it is important. And when wild-eyed Humanist writers, like Williams, write, I need to respond. I believe that I provided a logical and rational argument against her position, but also gave a clear message that every person is a sinner and in need of God’s grace. Even someone who had an abortion can be saved by the blood of Jesus Christ and I will cling to that truth.

      Thanks for reading,

      Travis

  2. So since women are the “boss” of their children (so much that she has the choice to kill him/her), then if I had a 5-year-old I could kill her? Why don’t we make infanticide legal? Why don’t we make killing our children legal? Why not just let all mothers kill their kids, no matter the age? Pro-abortion logic at work.

  3. Jenny, just 1 thing–obama said, if his girls made a mistake (got pregnant out of wedlock) , he didn’t want them STUCK with a baby! 1st thing– we, Christians, would call that a sin, but the baby, a blessing–he would call not being STUCK (to be cursed)a hinderance, WOW!!!!–2nd–he also voted, numerous times, not to give aide to a baby whose abortion was mishandled & survived. We, Christians, would call that MURDER, obama would call it, meeting the FEELINGS of the woman (notice i didn’t say mother, because abortion & mother shouldn’t be used in the same sentence). Now i could go forever, but i need to wrap my head in duct tape tightly, so it doesn’t explode thinking about his commit.

    • What I have been trying to say is that we are all sinners. We say that we all are, yet we continue to act like this is not true. This is why if we only read Rom. 1 for instance, without including Romans 2 in the same thought…which most people do because they don’t see the ‘therefore’ at the beginning of Rom. 2…then we are not thinking right.

I understand what you are saying Andy, however, 1st in order for you to expect Pres. Obama to begin acting any different at all, you have to pray for him and do spiritual warfare on his behalf…however these won’t work if you are harboring ill feelings of any kind. Ill feelings such as malice, slander of any kind, hateful, unfeeling and etc. are always from darkness…to the point where we aren’t even to have them towards our enemies, but we are even to love them! We have to totally live in the light to fight darkness. Our fight is not with flesh and blood.

President Obama is not the ultimate enemy…because God says that He placed him there and we are to pray for him. 1 Tim. 2: 1- 2 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. For Kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

Romans 13:1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

      Blessings..
