The Hope that We Have

In 2008 America fell in love with Barack Obama. Many thought he was a wonderful speaker. Many thought that he was going to transform the nation because of his constant references to “change”. The slogans were short but inspiring. Slogans like:

Change We can Believe In,

and,

Yes We Can,

were constant sayings in Obama’s speeches. These slogans seemed to resonate with folks who were displeased with the Bush administration. These sayings may be nobel phrases in themselves but nothing was more saddening to see, as a Christian, than the “Hope” posters that featured Obama:

Why was this poster so saddening? Because any hope outside of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is worthless. For far too long Christians have relied on the government to provide “hope” to the masses. God calls us to care for the widow, the fatherless, the poor, the needy, the down-and-out, the hurting, and the lost. Instead of doing the leg work ourselves we allowed the government to implement food stamps, unemployment benefits, etc. We, in essence, have placed our hope in a system that has disavowed its duty before God. Last election people chose to place their faith in a man the promised “hope” and “change” instead of the Gospel that provides it.

Romans 5: 1-5 says:

5:1 Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of God’s glory. 3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance, character, and character, hope. 5 And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. -NET

The Apostle Paul makes it clear that hope comes from Jesus Christ. We have “the hope of God’s glory” because of Jesus’ work on the cross. That work on the cross declares those that believe in Jesus to be righteous. Jesus’ work on the cross brings peace and comfort. Even in the midst of suffering we can have hope in Christ because, unlike the false promises that any human can make, the hope we have in Christ will never disappoint.

We have entered another election year and again we are seeing the promises of hope:

‘This election is also about hope and about change. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to be in the slogan,’ said David Axelrod, Obama’s message guru and senior campaign strategist. -Reuters, “Obama’s slogan: looking to replace Hope and Change”

And even though the Republicans will undoubtedly offer a rejoinder to President Obama’s slogan with another promise of hope; we must not forget where our true hope comes from. Our hope comes from the amazing work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Our hope comes from his resurrection which displayed his power over death. And that hope is surely one that will never disappoint.

A New Look at Abortion

I was planning on starting a new topic series on this blog before I ran across this YouTube video. Ray Comfort who is widely known The Way of the Master videos has put out a documentary entitled “180” Movie. This video shook me to the core. It starts out looking at Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust but then quickly shifts to the topic of abortion.

Every Christian should be pondering what Ray Comfort is saying here because every Christian should be concerned with the lives of those around us. It is our duty to stand up and fight for the babies in the wombs of mothers who want to kill them. Christians it’s time to wake up! I pray this movie be your wake up call.

World Wide Gay Agenda

On December 6th the President of the United Sates issued a memorandum. The title of it is “International Initiatives to Advance the Human Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Persons” Click the link to read the whole thing.

As a Christian, I am disgusted with our government. Not only have we, as a nation, tried to redefine marriage by allowing gay-marriage (oxymoron) but we are now telling other nations if they want the USA to help them out they need to, “build respect for the human rights of LGBT persons.”

Now, I am not saying that I do not believe in the human dignity of anyone. Every human is stamp with the image of God which gives them human dignity. However, we are basing rights off of sexual orientation. If that is not the sign of a totally and perverse nation I do not know what is. I understand what Pres. Obama is trying to communicate when he speaks of reducing physical harm to those of the LGBT communities. Christians would agree with that. However, “building respect for the human rights of LGBT persons” suggests that it is morally OK to engage in homosexual practices.

I am not the judge of anyones sinful actions or motives. God is. Yet, Pres. Obama wants to cultivate a world-wide culture that says homosexuality is OK. It is not OK.

God is the creator of all things. The creator has a divine right to tell His creation what is right and what is wrong. Homosexuality is sin. It is a life destroying practice and will be judged so by God. There are many other sins given to us in the Bible. Murder, adultery, lying, and stealing are just a few. I wonder when these God-given laws will be swept away by our nation.

What bugs me most about this is that there are more Christians around the world being tortured and killed for being Christians then there are homosexuals. Yet, Pres. Obama hasn’t come out promising funds and support for protecting their rights. Christians in China need to go underground to gather and worship God together. Where is Barak Obama’s stand against the Chinese for persecuting Christians? I am waiting for that Presidential Memorandum.

Here is a video of Hilary Clinton announcing this initiative. I want you to notice that at about the 1:50 mark she says they have  is a “Global Equality Fund”:

So, our government is going to engage in upholding and protecting the rights for LGBT people around the world. Of course, for Pres. Obama that means that the world should allow homosexuals to get married and adopt children. This was stated clearly in his 2009 proclamation announcing LGBT Pride Month when he wrote:

These measures include enhancing hate crimes laws, supporting civil unions and Federal rights for LGBT couples, outlawing discrimination in the workplace, ensuring adoption rights, and ending the existing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in a way that strengthens our Armed Forces and our national security….

This is not pleasing to God and Romans 1:32 speaks directly to what this government is doing when Paul writes:

Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them. -ESV

It is time that we, as Christians, stand upon God’s Word. It is time to call out to the LGBT community that they are living in sin and they need to repent and turn to God for salvation. It is time to tell Pres. Obama that we do not approve of your government use of funds to further this world-wide gay agenda.

It is simply time to stand.
